Translational Invariance in Models for Low-Temperature Properties of Glasses

چکیده
We report on a refined version of our spin-glass type approach to the lowtemperature physics of structural glasses. Its key idea is based on a Born von Karman expansion of the interaction potential about a set of reference positions in which glassy aspects are modeled by taking the harmonic contribution within this expansion to be random. Within the present refined version the expansion at the harmonic level is reorganized so as to respect the principle of global translational invariance. By implementing this principle, we have for the first time a mechanism that fixes the distribution of the parameters characterizing the local potential energy configurations responsible for glassy low-temperature anomalies solely in terms of assumptions about interactions at a microscopic level. Random pinning glass model.
Glass transition, in which viscosity of liquids increases dramatically upon decrease of temperature without any major change in structural properties, remains one of the most challenging problems in condensed matter physics despite tremendous research efforts in past decades. On the other hand, disordered freezing of spins in magnetic materials with decreasing temperature, the so-called "spin g...

In particular, chalcogenide glasses and glass-ceramics are new materials that exhibit good transparency in infrared region (0.8-12µm). We can overcome the main weakness of these glasses by improving the hardness through controlling crystallization. In this paper, we report results of a study on chalcogenide glasses in the ternary system of As-Se-Ge with nominal composition of Snx (Se...

Lead free, eco-friendly bismuth borate glasses doped with alkali oxides of composition xLi2O+(30-x)Na2O+55B2O3+15Bi2O3 (x = 5,10,15,20,25) were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Density measurements were carried out at room temperature by standard principle of Archimedes with Xylene as an immersion liquid. The non-linear ...
متن کاملLine defects and tunnelling modes in glasses
A theory of glasses at low temperatures is presented. The structure of glasses contains topologically stable Z2 line defects in continuous random networks, they are uninterrupted lines threading through oddnumbered rings of bonds which are represented as punctures in an otherwise continuous space. The overall homogeneity (stationary random structure) of the glass is formulated as gauge invarian...

This paper reports a CFD modeling study on the possibility of using high temperature and low oxygen content exhaust gases as oxidant for combustion in an industrial furnace by a written computer program. Under these conditions, the predicted results for the flow and heat transfer properties are compared with those under the several cases of conventional and highly preheated...
